Skin to Skin

Do you ever have so many thoughts running through your head that sleep eludes you?
Mine does tonight...so where to begin?
Two nights ago my infant was running a fever. Due to teething or allergies, who knows, but my first instinct was to strip her down to her diaper, strip down myself and get skin to skin with her. This is proven to help regulate the infant's body temperature.
More and more hospitals and birthing centers practice this method called "skin to skin". It's become well known that a young baby's body has trouble regulating its own temperature and that being skin to skin with a parent helps that homeostasis. Aren't our bodies fantastic?!
God really knew what He was doing creating these fascinating instruments we get to live in!
So as I was pondering being skin to skin with her, as I often am now and was pretty much all the time when she was first born half a year ago, I started thinking about this:
"Abide in Me."
Jesus' own words.
In the 15th chapter of the book of John, Jesus was recorded as saying this: "Abide in Me and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."

Abide. Another version says "remain". The Message paraphrase says "be joined with Me." That if we are separated from Him we can't produce a thing.
In other words, get skin to skin with Jesus.
Thinking of a grape vine and how the nutrients flow through the vine to the branches where the fruit is born. Thinking of my baby who needs to be skin to skin with me so that my body temperature can regulate hers.
Heck, I still get skin to skin with my preschooler when she gets a fever and it helps!
If I'm not connected to Jesus every. single. day. leaning into Him. snuggling up to Him. allowing His love to permeate my soul. How on earth am I supposed to love on my kids? How can I possibly love and serve my husband? How can I love people I don't even know in the world?
I wonder if God created our bodies to help regulate our children's body temperature to give us a small glimpse pointing to connecting with Him?
To whisper, hey! Come and cuddle up with your Daddy! The one who created you! The one who knit you together inside your mom's body. I know you better than you know yourself! I know your longings, your desires, your fears. Come, crawl up in My lap and lay your head on My chest and let My body regulate your temperature...
